Pinterest Goals: Board Covers

Hey Everyone! As a side note before discussing the amazing tools I’ve discovered on Pinterest, I want to mention that my last post: 5 Things I Love At Home went pretty rouge. Not only did it publish itself hours before I had given it permission to, it also turned off the commenting feature. You ever get weirded out over dumb stuff? I’m considering sitting here for another hour trying to figure out how both these things went wrong simultaneously. But that would be just as crazy.

Anyhow, I’ve been reading a lot of jazz about Pinterest being a great tool for bloggers, and while I’m always pinning ideas, I didn’t find myself actually doing many of them. I have a sneaking suspicion that many of you can relate. So last night, I took it upon myself to power through the application of some things that I’ve been reading about.

The first thing I’ve started doing is refreshing my iwannabealady Pinterest page through board covers. Board covers are what give pinners boards that sleek cohesive look. If you’re trying to market a brand, this is absolutely one way to do it. I’ll give you the link to one of the best tutorials that I’ve found. And you can head over to my Pinterest board titled Blogging and find even more.

Okay, so this is what my Pinterest page looked like before my overhaul.

 

While I tried to maintain a level of consistency in the coloring of my boards, it was obviously difficult. What we want to pin isn’t always going to fit a color scheme. But maybe you can sort of tell that I like pinks, greens and greys.

I spent quite a bit of time searching for good stock photos in a style and color-scheme that I like, and finding vertical ones was a challenge. Vertical images are most popular on Pinterest. I may still work out some little adjustments later like adding titles to every board image, but here is the result of my Pinterest board cover project.

I like the idea of doing the redesign now and letting it build with me. For some people, this may be too tranquil or too saturated, and it get that. There are lots of ways that you can adjust your covers to fit the mood that you’d like to capture for your brand. It all depends on your individual style, and that’s what I like about this.

As for me, I find this version more professional and welcoming. We’ve been told that too many choices creates a sense of paralysis in many of us. Here there is no overwhelm of choices. Just a pretty welcome mat and a title. If you zoom in you’ll notice that I started adding titles to some of the covers. That part is still a work in progress.

Also, finding quality stock photos was proving quite difficult until I decided to actually open one of my pins that had recommended sites. It brought me to unsplash.com  where the level of quality photos, and the earthiness of the assembled images is quite impressive. It’s also got an element of community as it tells you who the photographer is and gives you the ability to like photos. In addition, you can submit your own. Check it out. Additionally, I’ve started a free trial of tailwindapp.com which allows for scheduled releases of my pins. I’m not on Pinterest every hour, but when I am on there, pins are flying everywhere. With this app, I don’t barrage people with pins on hour and then send nothing out for the next 4 days.

Last thing, follow me on Pinterest if you’re into things that are beautifully cool and drop the link to your own pages in the comments box so I can see what you’re loving on these days. Men, that goes for you too! I don’t know if I’m correct, but I feel like men are letting Pinterest go to the ladies and that’s unfortunate. Or maybe I’m just living in a bubble. Prove me wrong please.
