Multipotentialites Can’t Settle On Just One Passion, and That’s Okay

 

A few days ago, I posted here about my inability to settle into one passion in life. There’s a name for that. It’s called a multipotentialite. It’s something I’d never heard of until a couple of years ago when I was scrolling through Ted.com and came across this video by Emilie Wapnick.

For those of you who understand the struggle of not having one true calling, you can just imagine how the title jumped out at me.

I know that there’s a few of you out there based on the responses I got in my comment section after that other post. I imagine that for every person I heard from, there were others silently nodding their heads.

And because I want to use this blog to enrich not only my life, but my reader’s lives, I thought I’d share some useful information to help my fellow multipotentialites out there sort through their conundrum. None of this stuff is affiliated because I don’t yet have my shit together enough for that.

Speaking of getting my shit together, you should all check out an awesome blogger (I want to call her new, but her number of followers is shooting up faster than weeds after a heavy rain) DGGYST. It stands for Damn Girl, Get Your Shit Together. She’s hilarious and she means it. You’re welcome.

Back to the issue at hand.

Emilie Wapnick is the creator of Puttylike.com, a place where multipotentialites like myself can go to find hundreds of articles and a supportive tribe of others like ourselves.

Btw, am I the only one who’s fed up with the word tribe? It’s all anyone says anymore, including me now apparently.

I know it’s not easy out there being an adult who still doesn’t know what you want to be when you grow up. I hope that you find this post helpful. And if you know anyone who might benefit from some good reading and direction on this topic, please share the link to this post.

I believe that spreading the message about multipotentiality is critical for helping many people, including younger ones like teenagers who are being asked on a regular basis by teachers, guidance counselors, family and friends what they want to be. It can foster confidence, understanding, and give words to what many of us feel but cannot express.

Personally, I’m tired of sounding like an absolute flake to the rest of the world.
