Henry David Thoreau said that “this world is but a canvas to our imagination.” In Wynwood, we could add the walls. The walls are the canvas and street artists come from all over the world to make their mark. Walking through Wynwood always makes my heart feel expansive. I think about the artists of old who were told that there was but one acceptable style.
But artists have always had a way of pushing forward. The Renaissance brought forth the value of the individual, the Impressionists demanded that style is a choice and broke the old rigidity of the Salon, modern art shouted that nothing is sacred and everything is sacred. Art is what moves us. Wynwood feels like a portfolio of art history. It feels like a win for the imagination. A win for all the artists who fought to expand our definitions of art and what’sbeautiful.
Grab A Bite
I started the day at Beaker & Gray, a restaurant and cocktail bar with rustic and industrial accents, serving American cuisine. The Heirloom Tomato dish from the small plate menu is light and surprisingly full of flavor. It’s also got crispy bits because crispy bits make everything better. My waiter didn’t hide the fact that he was infatuated with the Glass Noodles, so it may be worth a try.

And we’re off.
Here’s to one of those cool places that knows just how cool it is and is still down to earth.
Wynwood, Miami, Florida, USA.

A Closer Look
If you aren’t the walk freely sort, there are many tours that you can take by walking, biking or bus. Just don’t forget to free some space on your phone or camera for the hundreds of photos you’ll be taking. I like to use a combination of both.
There were so many more images that I wanted to include in this post, but storage space and I’d love for you to come check it out for yourself. You can set your GPS for Wynwood Walls and that will give you a central location to start.
Okay, Dear Reader, which of this images or styles is your favorite? I’d love to hear from you.

Street art is by far one of my favorite art forms. It’s such a shame, though, that people still consider it less legitimate than standard mural painting- or worse, more legitimate than graffiti.
