It’s very rare that anyone will catch me wearing all black. But patent leather leggings? That, you will find. Clothes have the power to tell a story, and I love using the power of fashion to create a story.
Up to this day, when I think of a woman hiking, I visualize Laura Dern as paleontologist Ellie Sattler in the original Jurassic Park— steel-toed boots, pleated khaki shorts and a buttoned down shirt, sleeves rolled up. What can I say, that movie made a huge impact on my childhood!
But I love juxtaposition and the unexpected. So why not raise the fashion ante on this day’s nature walk with the kids? If there were to be any running from dinosaurs, this outfit would serve just fine. I could even use the extra fabric on the shirt as a makeshift bandage if anyone gets clawed by a Velociraptor.
I love the stretchiness and coziness of this outfit. It’s so easy to wear (when running from dinosaurs).
See how the shirt can be easily tied up if a T-Rex has broken loose and we’re on the run? Last thing a woman wants is for her shirt to get latched onto a tree branch and she become a stereotypical damsel in distress. I shudder to think. Okay ladies, I confess. I just really want to be cast in an adventure movie, and this is my desperate attempt to be discovered.
These are one of my favorite glasses. I have a wee bit of an obsession with glasses, and these are a pair that I come back to often. I love the nerdy look. Of course, in this film, I’ll be intelligent and tough, with a heart of gold and a biting sense of humor.
Admit it, you can totally see my character in this look, can’t you? Tell me you see it!
Wait… do you hear that… Dilophosaurus.* Gotta go!
If you’ve never seen the original Jurassic Park, I don’t know what you’re doing with your life.
Do you ever invent stories or personalities for your outfits? Do you ever intentionally create a persona with the looks you put together? I’d love to hear about your relationship to fashion.
*spoiler alert: The one who ate Newman.

The T-Rex would stop dead in his tracks seeing such a fashionista. I love your entire look, and as for the boots, I might steal them if Daisy is not on night watch. xx

Wouldn’t that be one hell of a chick flick? Fashion having power over dinosaurs and all manners of disaster. it’s like a revised Zoolander for the ladies, lol. Someone should get on that. I had a matching brown pair, but my dog Porter chewed them to bits and my friends were sweet enough to hold a funeral for the boots. It was a solemn, solemn occasion and I almost killed the dog.

Indeed! I might pay up to watch it.
Friends who hold funeral for deceased boots are damn precious. Porter had good taste. I admire his choice of shoes to masticate. xx

What breed was he and is he still around?

He was a German Shepard mix. We had him since he was a puppy, but he ran off one day last year and someone kept him. He wasn’t wearing his collar. Then months later he was brought to the shelter and adopted by another family. It turned out to be for the best, but he was truly a sweet dog and I’m glad he found another home

Ah, I am sorry he ran away. It must have been hard for you. Yet it is a good thing to hear that he found a home at the end of it all. xx

It was especially tough not knowing for those few months what had become of him. We were so relieved when he turned up safe and then placed in a loving home. All’s well that end’s well!

You look gorgeous and sexy!! I do wear all black, literally. Jeans, top, shoes, purse, cardigan. I used to think people might ask “where’s the funeral?”, but it’s just so comfortable.

You don’t strike me as a dressed in all black type of gal. Or I take that back, I see you in all black with a nice pop of color on your lips like in your profile picture. Your are look reminds me of sexpots from old Italian movies. Off the shoulder black dress with a nipped waistline and red lips. So you!

Hahahaha thank you. I don’t have a style, actually. You can catch me wearing jeans and sneakers today and a dressy blouse and heels tomorrow. I wear all colors and patterns. Except for yellow or orange. I hate those. On my profile pic I was kind of preppy with a white shirt and a sleeveless green pullover, as well as the red lips

I’m the same way with my style. I can’t choose just one. It all depends on my mood. But I think it’s great to keep the people guessing, you know, switch things up. It’s all about feeling good

Totally. Plus, I find all kinds of things cute. A lace skirt or simple white shirt but also a sexy little black dress
