Instagram Fashion: May

April showers bring May flowers and lightweight fabrics that flutter in the wind, a bit more skin, and buttons– I seem to be having a thing for large buttons. You’ll see what I mean. Are you ready for Instagram Fashion: May?

This was a tough month. I started strong and gathered far too many beauties for my own good, so narrowing down or categorizing has been rough. I’ve gotten rid of so many clothes in my decluttering process, so it seemed only fair that I should be able to digitally hoard. But for the sake of your attention span I’ve narrowed down this month’s looks to a number we can both feel comfortable with.

White Dresses and Big Buttons

Summer and white dresses go together like summer and white dresses, while button details add polish to the classic look.

I’d probably never stick anything besides a phone in these deep pockets, but don’t the sight of them just make your heart flutter? So much room for activities.

Anytime you can be racy and innocent at the same time is a plus. What do you mean I look naked under here? I had no idea… Yeah, okay. Put me in a big city and put me in this dress. Notice the little buttons that give the effect of overalls? Freaking adorable.

Love the buttons; love the vintage vibe; love the simplicity and ease of this dress. And how gorgeous is this color, ugh!

Here’s that gorgeous color again, and here are the buttons. I’m almost certain that this outfit belonged to me in another life and it’s making its way back to me. Slide on some flats in the same burnt sienna color and this is the perfect outfit for walking around your city.

The fact that this outfit isn’t hanging in my closet exemplifies everything that is wrong with the world. I don’t know what that means, but it feels right.

 

The Suit and the Blazer

From the moment women got their hands on menswear there was no way we were giving it back. Go hard or go soft, you can’t go wrong with a little structure.

Gingham, check, and plaid has been huge these past few seasons, and it’s easy to see why. This look is versatile, cool and classic. I love the pairing with these sandals, of which I have a pair!

I know I say that I love a lot of things, but seriously, one of my top favorite things is a silky dress combined with structural pieces. Let’s all pause and reflect on the beauty of this mauve color. Other points to love: the tossled hair, the impeccably ruffled sleeves on the jacket, the simple structured bag.

Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t look cool in a suit. Note the innovative lapel. Not the contrasting button. Note the pleated front. None of us ever expected pleats to come back, but pair it with a high waist and it’s golden. Even the gaudy gold on the belt is an unexpected pleasure. Part of me is waiting for Tony Montoya to show up to this meeting.

Here the blazer, checkered print and white dress come together to create magic. I wouldn’t be caught dead carrying a beach bag and bucket around but she makes it work. To each her own.

Girlie Pattern and Precise Tailoring

Honestly, I don’t know what to say. Everything about this dress is perfect. It throws back to a time when lines ruled.

We don’t tend to think tailoring for sundresses, but those of you who know, know just what a difference the perfect cut on a sundress can make. Getting soft fabrics to hang just right is an art form, my friends. Note the subtle cinching at the waist.

The cuts on this dress are so precise, it could do brain surgery.

Peek-a Boo.

Show a little skin. It’s getting hot out honey.

 

There’s that perfect cut again. And the color I love so much.

Someone asked for perfection in a dress and Reformation delivered.

Be the mom who sets the summer BBQ on fire.

I’m aware that eating in these pants would be strictly forbidden, but I want them anyway.

Fellow South Floridian bringing the tropical vibes. We don’t wear much fabric on the beaches ’round here.

The color combinations are mesmerizing and it’s making me nostalgic.
